Root Canal Treatment
Rochester Endodontics, Dr. Saisselin, Fairport NY
What is a root canal?
A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed, well over 14 million every year. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges.
At the center of your tooth is pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.
If you experience any of these symptoms, your dentist will most likely recommend non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. This injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. Root canal therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Success for this type of treatment occurs in about 90% of cases. If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when a complication becomes evident during or after treatment. Dr. Saisselin uses local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort. In addition, we will provide nitrous oxide analgesia, if indicated. You will be able to drive home after your treatment, and you probably will be comfortable returning to your normal routine.
To provide you with a better understanding of endodontic therapy, we have provided the following multimedia presentation. Many common questions pertaining to root canals are discussed.
What happens after treatment?
When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist. You should contact their office for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of completion at our office. Your restorative dentist will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth. It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment or microsurgery. If a problem does occur, however, we are available at all times to respond. To prevent further decay, continue to practice good dental hygiene.
How much will a root canal cost?
The cost associated with root canals can vary depending on factors such as the severity of damage to the affected tooth and which tooth is affected. In general, endodontic treatment is much less expensive than tooth removal and replacement with an artificial tooth.

I had my first experience with root canal. Dr. Saisselin and his staff made everything about the experience go as well as possible. Everyone seemed to be truly concerned about me and explained each step from sign in to after care perfectly. Best of all, the discomfort I have felt during and after the treatment was minimal. Obviously I would love to avoid needing more root canal work, but if i do ever need one again I know who I will go to.

Dr. Saisselin performed an emergency root canal late on a Friday afternoon. His skill in treating the problem was very clear but importantly his staff was so kind and considerate that they made me as comfortable as possible. Dr. Saisselin's patience with my difficulty in moving my jaw due to a neck brace was evidence of his patient concern and care. I have been back for a check due to my own worry and in each case was treated with compassion, my concerns listened to, and my fears eased with a thorough check and assurances that everything was fine (which it was). Highly recommended if you need dental help!

I saw my general dentist at 12:00 and by 3:00 that day I had seen Dr. Saisselin, had treatment, picked up by antibiotic and was home feeling better. I found Dr. Saisselin's entire staff to be friendly and efficient. Dr. Saisselin reviewed my xrays, did some testing and before I knew it my treatment was completed and I was home and out of pain. I am very grateful for the treatment I received at Dr. Saisselin's office from beginning to end.

I would like to throw my two cents in re my appointment April 5, 2017 with Dr. Saisselin. I read the many patient reviews on the good Doctor and his staff. I was referred to Dr. Saisselin by the VA Rochester OPC dental clinic and, given all the horror stories about root canals over the years, wasn't quite sure what to expect. Donna and the rest of the staff were more than wonderful in processing me and prepping me for Dr. Saisselin's expert work. Dr. Saisselin was friendly, reassuring, introduced himself, and could not have been nicer. Following x-rays, he used a quick back and forth motion with his fingers which greatly eased the discomfort from the lidocain injections. He and Donna showed great concern for my comfort and before I knew it, he painlessly deadened the nerve during the root canal. I just was amazed that the root canal was done so painlessly and quickly, with his incredible expertise employed in my procedure. I cannot say enough about Dr. Saisselin, as well as the staff. I not only rate Dr. Saisselin five stars, but another 25 to boot, for an even 30 stars!

Was referred to Dr. Saisselin's office as an emergency by my general dentist. I was in a tremendous amount of pain when I arrived at the office. The staff was GREAT, from when I first walked in they understood I was in pain and were kind and sympathetic. When I was taken to a treatment room the staff member was very professional, kind and caring. Dr. Saisselin came in the room and calmed my fears, reviewed my x-ray, did some testing and explained everything to me and then got me numb...that was awesome! When the office called me the next day to check to see how I was doing I told them "you are the nicest group of people I have ever met, your office turned what I thought would be a very bad experience into a positive one" I will recommend Dr. Saisselin's office to anyone that may need a root canal

In pain and referred by my General Dentist, I was NOT looking forward to having emergency root canal treatment. My initial call to Dr. Saisselin's office put me at ease, the staff was understanding and very helpful. Upon arriving for my emergency appointment I was treated with kindness and respect from the front desk staff to the assistant and the Doctor. Dr. Saisselin evaluated my situation, explained my options and then proceeded to numb and treat my tooth. The procedure went great and, in fact, I almost fell to sleep. I would highly recommend Dr. Saisselin's office to all who may need a root canal.

Some people are just born with a special gift and when they also work hard to perfect it you have someone with true mastery. So when I was fortunate enough to land in Dr. Saisselin’s chair with “the worst case of cellulitis we’ve ever seen” from a badly botched attempt at a root canal I counted myself lucky indeed. From the moment he began his work it was clear I was in the presence of someone who was in complete command of his craft and his subsequent rescue of me and my tooth proved my assessment to be spot on. The confidence, ease and fluidity with which he performed his work had me quickly letting go my death grip on the chair and there wasn’t one iota of pain, ever. The amusing banter he keep up with his “lovely assistant” increased my feeling of comfort and I might go as far as to say…I enjoyed myself! So when my dear 90-year old mother required a root canal and was about to have a non-pro do the procedure I insisted, no I demanded that she call Dr. Saisselin for an appointment. He took her in immediately, waved his wand again and she sailed through hers just as I had mine. You need a specialist to do this complex work and that is what Dr. Saisselin is. But in his case he’s a bit few more rungs up that ladder and that is why I have dubbed him, “The Renoir of Root Canals”. Count yourself among the fortunate that you too have found him for your Doctor. Karen Tweet Laufer Irondequcit 544-3742

Dr. Saisselin, Dolores, and Sue, Although the circumstances surrounding my visit to your office were not ideal, I wanted to express my heartfelt appreciation for your time, services, cooperation, and most importantly compassion. On top of needing an emergency root canal last week, I lost a loved one very suddenly to cancer. I cannot emphasize enough how grateful I am to you all for your flexibility and assistance. You made a very bad week a lot better. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and a healthy & happy 2016. Best, Abby
